This is a new edition to bibi graetz portfolio of wines.
“Casamatta” translates to “crazy house”: a name chosen from the avante garde artist/winemaker Bibi Graetz, whose portfolio. And a “CRAZY HOUSE” it has been to say the least!! It might be the wine that is keeping both Lisa and I from killing one another! LOL!
The Casamatta Rosso Toscana IGT 2011 recently received 90 points from Wine Spectator and 88 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
This 100% Sangiovese gem expresses a beautiful balance between fruit and acidity, is medium-textured, vibrant (no wood aging on this red), and shipping at $100. a case… a perfect winter red at a fantastic price.
The Sangiovese is picked from 10+ year old vines in various vineyards in southern and central Tuscany. Bibi is passionate about utilizing only indigenous grapes, and a further exploration of his portfolio will reveal tremendous Sangiovese from older vines in the Graetz family vineyards around Fiesole. The flagship wine, Testamatta, has a cult following in the Italian wine community.
Here’s what the Wine Spectator had to say about Casamatta Rosso:
“Blackberry and black cherry notes are accented by tobacco and spice in this concentrated red. Fresh and lively, with a firm finish. This should develop nicely.” Bruce Sanderson, 8/18/12
